The 15th Annual Pleasure Island Chowder Cook Off

The 15th Annual Pleasure Island Chowder Cook Off

Six of my favorite words regarding Pleasure Island (Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, Fort Fisher) are “The Pleasure Island Chowder Cook Off.” Just the memory of sampling the local fare is enough to get my mouth watering and my taste buds jumping. My last visit not only resulted in my best friend and I voting for the winner (Carolina Beach’s own Surfhouse) but in earning a delightful lobster necklace that still hangs from my truck’s rearview mirror. With live music, a kid zone and 8 local restaurants doling out samples (plus other food vendors once you desire something more substantial like a funnel cake and massive lemonade), this is truly an event for the whole family. There will be beer and wine available for sale, so they do ask that you leave the coolers at home along with your furry friends. Tickets are only $5 for people 13 and up (kids 12 and under are free) and gates open at 11:30. Trust me- it’s worth every last penny for the chance to sample some of our area’s best local chowder!

This year’s chowder cook off contestants are: 17th Street Deli - Wilmington Havana's - Carolina Beach O'Charleys - Monkey Junction Seaside Grill @ Marriott - Carolina Beach Surfhouse - Carolina Beach (2010 Peoples Choice) Tangerines Caribbean Grill - Carolina Beach The Lazy Pirate - Carolina Beach (2010 Judges Choice) Treehouse Bistro- Carolina Beach

Other vendors include: Country Boy's Bar-B-Q Greek Boys (Hot Dogs) NC Sweet Ice Tea - Funnel Cakes Papa Johns Pizza Pleasure Island Cupcakes Snow's Cut Cafe - Chips & Salsa The Island Ice Factory - Italian Ice 17th Street Deli – Sandwiches

And MAKO will be playing live from 11:30-4:00, so come out and enjoy the music, fun, and amazing food!

This year’s event will be located at the Carolina Beach Lake Park on Saturday, April 16, 2011. Gates open at 11:30, tickets are $5 with children 12 and under free with an adult. No coolers or pets please. For more information please visit The Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce event page.
